December 18, 2014:
You guys will start on your multicultural flyer today! This might be a bit easier for you guys, because there are two themes that you're more familiar with: culture and dance. Create a flyer that somehow shows at least one of them. Here are the last two multicultural flyers:
However, for this flyer, you will also need to make a ticket that matches with your flyer. Below are the tickets to the flyers above:
These are a bit more detailed and colorful than the eco-friendly flyers, but notice how they're still sort of simplistic. Also, no downloaded resources were used other than free fonts. You may use images as references, though.
Here are the requirements for each:

We will also have a critique session for your ideas, and this will be graded. Refer to the rubric for the requirements. Additionally, if you need any help, you can look online, through my website, or ask me, Emily, or Tahsin.
December 17, 2014:
You'll have the entire day to work on your Eco-Friendly flyer. But first, I want you guys to not use the laptops for about 5 minutes and just list everything that relates to the theme "You". Then, draw out your ideas. They don't have to cover up the entire paper. Jumping straight into Photoshop won't give you any ideas unless you're a total expert. However, not all of us are at that level yet, and it's alright to take some time to think. Then, go back to the link with the past flyers and find their similarities and try to somehow apply those similarities into your ideas. Additionally, please remember these things:
You will be graded quite heavily on this assignment, so please use your time wisely. Turn off your phones if they're going to distract you. We will also have two critique sessions, one before lunch and one after. And yes, both will be graded, so refer back to the rubric if needed. The first one will be for presenting your ideas to everyone and receiving feedback. The second one will be for your flyer, whether finished or not. If you don't finish the flyer by the end of the day, you will have time to work on it on Monday, December 22. You can also email the PSD file to yourself and download the free trial over the weekend if you have a computer at home.
- Your flyer MUST be simplistic (i.e.- Use readable fonts)
- Everything must be organized (When thinking about where to place something, ask yourself "why")
- You CANNOT have any images from the Internet on your flyer, and all resources that you use MUST be free. (You're welcome to use the images as references for tracing, though. However, you must also somehow change them up a little bit so you're not just copying.)
- Think about how the audience may perceive your flyer. (i.e.- For every image you use, ask yourself, "Will they easily understand what it represents?")

We only have 5 more days left of Intensives: Tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. And, we still have a lot of work to do. So for today, the first half of the day will be working on your campaign posters, and then after lunch, you're going to start on making flyers for this year's Eco-Friendly Fashion Show. I want you guys to really put in all your effort for this one, because this flyer is due on Tuesday. Also, the best one will get considered (and maybe chosen on the spot) to be used for the show. You won't get any prizes, but if your flyer gets chosen to be used for the show, you can put it on your resume during your junior year.
Also, before lunch, you all will read a pretty simple (and maybe fun) tutorial on how to make glowing lines. This will also be great practice for your skills with the pen tool, especially for those who are still confused on how to use it. Click for the tutorial below:
After lunch you will start working on the flyer for the Eco-Friendly Fashion Show. The theme for this year's EFFS is "YOU." The requirements are as follows:

Happy tiring Monday, unless you love Mondays LOL. You're going to have the entire day to work on your poster, unless you truly feel like you're completely done with it. Everytime you feel like you're done, look at your poster and ask yourself, "What else can I add/delete/edit?" Chances are, there's something for you to change. Also, take your time with it. There's no need to rush because you have a few months at least to work on this. Additionally, try out as many resources (fonts, shapes, pen tool, clipping masks, patterns, brushes, etc...) as you can! And try to challenge yourself. Simplicity is great, but it's also sometimes difficult to achieve. You can be simple, but try to think of ideas that most people wouldn't think of. For example, if you're going to make a poster about bullying, don't just make a drawing of a person crying or a person with bruises all over.
I'll also give you a short lesson on clipping masks, which are super easy to do. If you don't remember all the steps, go to Basic Information > Basic Tutorials and look for "Clipping Masks".
While you're working on your posters, there will be a individual critique session with you and a small audience (including me, Emily, and Tahsin). You don't have to take all the feedback, but do at least consider some of it. You will be graded on this session.

You will also have to read another tutorial. Click on the button below to start reading it. If you like, you may try out the things done in the tutorial after reading it.

Yesterday, you guys learned about how to use a lot of the tools in Photoshop. I know, it was a lot to take in. It's alright if you don't remember everything from yesterday, but I do hope you will be able to remember how to use those tools by the end of the intensive. If you're still struggling with anything, feel free to ask me, Tahsin, or Emily for help.
Anyhow, today you'll first read a tutorial on uploading patterns and ways you can use them. Click on the link below for the tutorial:
http://designinstruct.com/tools-basics/photoshop-patterns-ultimate-guide/
(stop at "In Practice: Creating and Applying a Diagonal Line Pattern")
Next, continue working on your greeting cards. Be as creative as you can be! And finally, you will start making your own wallpapers. The minimum size is 800 x 600 pixels, and the maximum is 1920 x 1200 pixels. Your wallpapers should represent your identity, so get creative and use all the resources you can find! Below are some examples:

Welcome to Photoshop! Since today's the first day of Intensives, I just want you all to explore the program and play around with all the tools and options. The program will make you feel overwhelmed because of how much there is to learn about it, but once you get used to it, you'll find some things to be extremely convenient (like the pen tool, because that's almost everyone's friend LOL).
